The Home of Friendly Credit has been an established fixture in the community since 1902. In fact, Walton's is Jacksonville's oldest locally owned retail business. Walton & Co. was incorporated by J.W. Walton and originally was in the ice and coal business. Horse-drawn wagons made the coal and ice deliveries until the thirties when the trucks took over the job.
J.W. Walton was also the publisher of the Jacksonville Journal Courier newspapers until his death in 1930. Walton's son-in-law John T. Hackett and daughter Helen Walton-Hackett assumed responsibility for the company. The company began to sell automatic heating equipment or coal stokers in the 1930's.
The current location of Walton's (which has had several locations throughout the city over the years) was built in 1962. Jack Hackett represents the third generation of the Walton-Hackett family. Jack began selling window air conditioners in the fifties and by the sixties had moved the company into appliance and television sales as well.
Jack's son, Steve joined the company in 1979, and has continued to offer the latest in appliances and electronics, including home theatre, DVD, and digital camcorders from quality manufacturers such as RCA, Toshiba, JVC, Frigidaire, Amana, and Fisher & Paykel. The Waltons.tv website offers the latest means to access our richly historical, yet cutting edge company.
